The textile waste challenge.

The textile and fashion industry is facing a huge challenge forward:

• Is forecasted to process 150 million tonnes/year of fibers in 2030

• Is responsible for close to 10% of global CO2 emissions

• Consumes 7,000-29,000 liters water/kg textile

• Generates 10 million tonnes of textile waste in Europe by 2030

Less than 1% of textile waste is currently recycled!

Global Polyester Fibre Market

Polyester downcycling.

More than 80 million tones of fossil polyester is produced annually and more than 60% is used for synthetic fibers which are unrecyclable today. About 10 million tonnes of polyester fibers is produced from downcycled PET bottles.

An increasing demand for closed loop recycling.

• 60-70% recycled fibre supply shortage forecasted for 2030

• No established technologies for fibre-to-fibre recycling of polyester

• Bottled based fibers supply under increasing pressure

• Regulatory pressure to stop

• EU Green Claims Directive

• Brands moving to close the PET bottle loop
